This poem was born on a quiet evening when my mind refused to settle—one of those nights filled with a million racing thoughts, each one insisting I needed to fix, plan, or control something; each one loudly attempting to convince me that I wasn’t skilled or confident enough to do follow His call. In the middle of that mental storm, I felt a gentle realization settle over me: God was right beside me. He always had been. If I seek first His kingdom and surrender every aspect of my life to Him, then everything that comes my way becomes an opportunity for growth and learning.
I don’t need to hold every outcome in my hands. I don’t need to predict the future or solve every worry before morning. The One who knows my desires, my needs, and my entire life story was already carrying what I was trying so hard to manage alone. When I loosen my grip and trust Him—really trust Him—I find peace in remembering that He provides in His perfect timing. My prayer is that it may be your reminder too – that we don’t walk through our days alone, and we don’t have to hold the world together. God’s already doing that, and He never forgets about us. We can entrust every part of our lives to His steady hands and His perfect plans.
I thought I could change my situation
“From the stars that in their trackless courses through space follow from age to age their appointed path, down to the minutest atom, the things of nature obey the Creator’s will. And God cares for everything and sustains everything that He has created. He who upholds the unnumbered worlds throughout immensity, at the same time cares for the wants of the little brown sparrow that sings its humble song without fear. When men go forth to their daily toil, as when they engage in prayer; when they lie down at night, and when they rise in the morning; when the rich man feasts in his palace, or when the poor man gathers his children about the scanty board, each is tenderly watched by the heavenly Father. No tears are shed that God does not notice. There is no smile that He does not mark.
By worrying all the night –
As if my problems could easily shift
By anxious thoughts and my own might.
I couldn’t add an inch to my stature
Even if I really tried,
Cause worrying’s never really helped
My needs to be supplied.
Does the sparrow think mid-flight
What keeps him in the air?
Or if he’ll find a little bite to eat –
No – he lives without a care.
Does the bear wonder whether a home she’ll find
To keep her cubs from threat?
Or food to keep them healthy and fed –
No – she lives without a fret.
For didn’t Jesus tell us once,
In words both clear and true,
That life is more than anxious thoughts
And God knows what we need too?
So why won’t I trust as I go about my days
In God’s care and never failing love –
He’s never, ever forgot about me;
He watches from above.
He’s promised to supply my every need,
And His promise never fails.
So instead of panicking and losing my grip,
I’ll rely on Him whose grace prevails.
He knows my wants and deepest desires;
He draws close in His loving care.
And when I let go and give control to Him,
I find peace in leaving my worries there.
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:25-27, 34
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6,7
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
“Cast your burden upon the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5,6
If we would but fully believe this, all undue anxieties would be dismissed. Our lives would not be so filled with disappointment as now; for everything, whether great or small, would be left in the hands of God, who is not perplexed by the multiplicity of cares, or overwhelmed by their weight. We should then enjoy a rest of soul to which many have long been strangers.” Steps to Christ Page 86
