This piece comes from a place of lived experience — from all the times I rushed ahead, ignored wise voices, and found myself lost. And each time that I struggled to wait, listen, or trust, God taught me the lessons I needed to learn and met me with infinite mercy. These words are my reminder that His timing is perfect, and His grace never runs out. If you’ve ever taken the long way around, may these lines remind you that God’s arms are still open, His path is still good, and His promises still, and will forever, hold true.
Wait on the Lord
My mama had said,
I didn’t — and found
Many troubles instead.
Wait on the Lord,
The pastor had preached,
But I ran on my own
And lost the peace I’d reached.
Wait on the Lord,
My brother implored,
But I went the opposite way —
His wise advice ignored.
Wait on the Lord,
A dear friend reminded,
But I chose my own path
Instead of the one He’d provided.
Wait on the Lord,
The good Word had said,
But I grew impatient
And followed my own heart instead.
How many times (like me)
Do we need to be reminded
Before we finally follow
The path as He’s designed it?
But thankfully, He gives us true grace,
And with a still voice, He calls —
Reminding us of His love
Even when we fall.
If we come back,
He welcomes us home
With arms outstretched —
We never have to roam.
His path is much better
Than the one we have in mind.
If we ask Him to guide our steps,
True peace and joy we’ll find.
His mercy is unending.
He forgives us anew.
Wait on the Lord —
He sees the end from the beginning,
And His promises hold true.
